Ensuring the Safety of Intelligent Computers

19 May 2010: Ulster informatics researcher Dr Roy Sterritt of the Computer Science Research Institute has been working with US space agency NASA on the development of techniques to ensure the safety and security of the next generation of self-directing, self-healing computing systems.
These 'autonomic' computing systems could provide the software to power the robot computer swarms which may soon be exploring Mars and the asteroid belt, following US President Obama's decision set the exploration of Mars as a key policy objective for the space agency.

Ulster Researchers Team Up With UCLA
