Although the World Wide Web has brought many benefits to the modern age, some have argued that it now suffers from a glut of information of varying quality.

We are increasingly suffering from information 'smog' and it is becoming increasingly difficult to get information quickly, they argue.

A workshop is to be held at Magee College on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 December to discuss possible solutions to the problem.

It has been organized by Professor Fionn Murtagh:

"Clearly the information systems we are dealing with, the Web in particular, have got to have more cleverness built in if they are to effectively clean themselves up."

The workshop has been sponsored by the European Science Foundation.
