Former Dentist and a Musician Talk on Literature

15th October 1998

A former dentist, who now spends his professional life in the study of disease is to begin the first of a series of readings and talks on Irish Literature at the University of Ulster at Coleraine.

Augustus Young is a London-based Irish poet. His poetry reflects his background in the sciences. He trained as a dentist but now works as an epidemiologist in a number of Research Institutes. He is fascinated by memory and families and this comes through in his writing.

Throughout these readings, he will be joined by Frank Sewell who is a poet, a translator, a musician and also a research officer at the Centre. His translations and poems have won much praise and a recent volume of his work was shortlisted for the Ariston Foundations Award.

The series of talks, which will be hosted by the Centre for Irish Literature and Bibliography will be held at the University's Coleraine campus. They will begin on Wednesday, 21 October at 5 o'clock in the Cavehill Building.

Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
