University announces appointment of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Springvale

29th September 1998

It has been announced by the University of Ulster that Professor Wallace Ewart, Director of the Springvale project, has been appointed Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Provost (Belfast). He will serve for a term of four years in the first instance, commencing on the 1 October 1998.

Professor Lord Smith of Clifton, Vice-Chancellor of the University, feels that an appointment at this senior level reflects the crucial importance of the Springvale project to further and higher education and economic development in North and West Belfast. He said today: "We have an immense task of fundraising still to complete and we need to take full account of the views of members of the community from North and West Belfast in developing our plans for all areas of work at the educational village. Professor Ewart's knowledge of and deep commitment to Springvale has been widely acclaimed and will help us and our partners in the Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education to move on towards making this exciting project a reality."

Professor Wallace Ewart was formerly Dean of the Faculty of Informatics and then Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management at the University.
