Cross Country - Locals off to World Championship
18th March 1998
The Director of Sport and Recreation at the University of Ulster, Malcolm Brown, has been appointed national coach for the United Kingdom Cross-Country team which competes in the world championships in Morocco this weekend.
The UK team - six teams of six runners- includes Carrickfergus schoolteacher Amanda Crowe. They will join runners such as Paula Radcliffe in competing over four days in Marrakech.
Mr Brown leaves for Marrakech tomorrow:
"Cross-country running can be a very individual sport and, apart from the coaching itself, the runners often need a great deal of psychological support."
The cross-country World Championships will be held in Belfast next year.
