University of Ulster Academic to Address UN

A senior academic at the University of Ulster is to address a special hearing of the United Nations in Geneva tomorrow - Wednesday, 7 July.
Professor Mari Fitzduff, is Director of INCORE - the joint United Nations University and University of Ulster project on conflict resolution-, which is based at Magee College in Londonderry/Derry.
The project is one of only five international organisations that has been chosen to make such a presentation to the UN in preparation for its millennium commission.
Professor Fitzduff will address a regional hearing of the UN - the moderator of the human rights section of this hearing will be Mrs Mary Robinson, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The hearing will be chaired by the President of Malta, Mr Guido de Marco,
Professor Fitzduff will speak about the UN in peacekeeping. She will look in particular at how best it could adjust its mechanisms to improve its effectiveness in conflict resolution and look at what creative ways of co-operation should be developed between states, regional, organizations and international organisations in the pursuit of peace and stability
