Marketing Heaven

The commercial exploitation of the idea of heaven and paradise will be one of the themes of an international conference in marketing, which will be held in Belfast this weekend.

The conference has been organised by the University of Ulster. Professor Stephen Brown says the idea of a perfect world underlies much of marketing, whether it is perfect families, perfect appearances, perfect holidays, perfect pets, perfect pizzas, and even perfectly pulled pints.

"Public opinion surveys, moreover, show that many people's perceptions of Heaven are akin to the ideal world portrayed in television ads for Timotei shampoo - sylvan glades, glistening waterfalls, gambolling unicorns and a good hair day. What more could anyone want? The Bounty Bar's are a 'taste of paradise', after all."
