Seminar of Human Rights and Minority Rights

25th November 1999

A United Nations and UNESCO consultant is to give an address on Human and Minority Rights at Magee College.

The address, "International Law, Human Rights and Minority Rights: A Legal Approach to Ethnic Conflict Prevention" will be given by Dr Fernand de Varennes.

Dr Varennes has been appointed as the latest person to hold the Tip O'Neill Chair - which President Clinton dedicated to the University during his trip to the city.

He is a consultant to a number of international organisations and is a recognised authority on minority rights, ethic conflicts, human rights and international law.

The seminar will be the first in an annual series of public addresses on issues arising from ethnic conflict.

It has been organised by INCORE - the joint United Nations University/University of Ulster project on conflict resolution.
