University of Ulster Appoints Human Rights Lawyers

16th December 1999

The University of Ulster has appointed three new Professors of Law, each with outstanding reputations in human rights law.

It says the appointments, which will begin in the New Year, will make the University one of the leading centres for human right and equality law in Europe: the Chief Commissioner for Human Rights in Northern Ireland, Professor Brice Dickson, is also a member of the University's legal team.

Professor Fionnuala Ni Aolain, who is assistant Professor of Law at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and a visiting Professor of Law at Columbia Law School in New York, and Colum Campbell, who is currently Professor and Dean of Law at the National University of Ireland in Galway, will join the University's School of Public Policy, Economics and Law in Jordanstown.

Christine Bell, currently Director of the Centre for International and Comparative Human Rights Law at Queen’s University, has been appointed to the first Professorship in Law at the University’s Magee College campus in Derry/Londonderry.
