Bishop Mehaffey To Be Honoured As "An Agent For Peace"

The Church of Ireland Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, Dr James Mehaffey is among those to be honoured this year by the University of Ulster at its graduation ceremonies.
Dr Mehaffey is to get an honorary degree for his role as 'a foremost agent of peace in Northern Ireland'
Diljit Rana, the Belfast based businessman, will be honoured for his contribution to the 'ever increasing prosperity of the city'
Chris Gibson, the Chairman of the CBI in Northern Ireland another respected businessman in the province, is also to be honoured for his contribution to economic life here
Mona Grey, aged 88, who was for a time the province's Chief Nursing Officer, is to be honoured for her contribution to the nursing profession in Northern Ireland
Jack Fawcett is to be awarded for his contribution to the education and well being of older people. 79 year old Jack is the University's oldest teacher
Michael Canavan will be honoured for his work as a life time champion of higher education in the north west of the province,
Malcolm Brodie is to receive his award for his long and distinguished career as a sports journalist
Janet Harbinson will be honoured as one of Ireland's leading harpists
Mary Henry, the Dublin Senator, will be honoured for her work with women's community groups in Northern Ireland
Dr Charles Hamner, a pioneer in America's biotechnology industry will be honoured for his efforts in helping the University and
James Poston, the British Consul General in Boston, will be honoured for his work in promoting the University's project to establish an educational village at Springvale in Belfast.
