First sod cut on Maqee College developments
7th July 2000
Foyle MP John Hume has cut the first sod on the sites of both the new International Business Centre and the Software Development Centre at Magee College.
Speaking afterwards, Mr Hume said both ventures were positive initiatives for the north-west region, helping it to secure a stake in the high technology industries of the future.
Both buildings of around 5000 square feet each will provide high specification accommodation for entrepreneurs who have started or about to start new ventures. and will form part of the Magee College Science Research park to be launched later this year.
Negotiations with prospective tenants for the buildings are already well under way and we anticipate that the buildings will be completed and ready for occupation during November, 2000.
The development of these two buildings represents a strategic development for the University's technology and knowledge transfer initiatives. Forming the first phase of development on the Aberfoyle Estate, these two buildings will provide tenants with high specification accommodation with the added advantage of being located in close proximity to the University research strengths. Furthermore, it is fully anticipated that the tenants will form close interactions with the student population and graduates of the University.
