Third Day's Play at Castlerock
28th July 2000

USA student golfers Kristin Dufour and record breaker Angie Yoon discuss tactics during today's play at the 8th University Golf Championships at Castlerock
It was another record breaking day as student golfers at Castlerock completed the third round of the 8th world student golf championships.
The USA's Angie Yoon broke the ladies' course record with a stunning 70 - the thrid time the ladies course record has been broken since play began at the tournament on Monday. british team member Laura Moffat had already broken it twice, but Yoon's superb round yesterday surpassed all
expectations.
And Irishman Graeme McDowell is still in the lead in the men's as the competition enters its final day.
The weather at the north-west coast course has turned overcast and windy, adding a new layer of difficulty to the already fast, dry course.
"The changed weather conditions have made play a little tougher today," said organiser Eric Wallace. "We've only had a few of the men come in with under-par scores far fewer than yesterday."
But the players are generally happy with the way the course is playing. It's moderatly more difficult than yesterday, and the players are a bit tentative on the greens, trying to be cautious rather the aggressive in their putting. There are also a few very tricky pin positions - but generally the course is very fair to the competitors."
One player, Australia's Justin Waring, was unfortunately taken ill, while another, Mannes Smelt from Holland injured his knee at the seventh hole.
Tomorrow (Friday) is the last day of the tournament, with an awards ceremony to be held in the Salmon Leap restaurant, Coleraine.
