Helping us to Help Ourselves

23rd July 2001

The Management Institute announced its participation in an International Fund for Ireland support programme for community regeneration groups focused on project development and the improvement of management practice.

The aim of the Community Leadership Programme is to provide a co-ordinated range of activities to enable participant members of local community organisations to strengthen their leadership capacities, thereby assisting in the development of sustainable social and economic regeneration in disadvantaged areas.

The current phase, which will run for 3 years, is due to start in September and will be delivered by a consortium consisting of The Management Institute at the University of Ulster, LOCUS Management, Business Results, Re-Gen and Colin Stutt Consulting. Some 25 groups are recruited onto the programme annually from across Northern Ireland and the border counties of Ireland, each of which has access to:-

one-to-one mentoring support
six one-day training sessions in Management Practice
funding for a small project
funding to visit best practice projects
four networking events and
accreditation from the University of Ulster for the Certificate in Management Practice.

Anita MacNabb, senior consultant at The Management Institute will be responsible to co-ordinating all management development activities connected with this programme, including ICT in Community Leadership; Leadership Issues; Financial Management; Managing People and Resources and Group Dynamics.

The Chairman of the IFI, William T MCCarter, officially launched the Community Leadership Programme in Cookstown earlier this summer.
