Merger boosts Magee computing power
7th August 2001
An exciting merger between two faculties at the Magee campus has led to the development of a brand new school at the site.
The new School of Computing and Intelligent systems, headed by Professor Martin McGinnity, is the result of a merger between staff at the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Informatics.
The new school will be based solely at the Magee campus and will be the largest school on the site with over 700 students.
“This exciting development provides a single point of entry for all new students wishing to pursue a career in the areas of computing and electronics and should have a positive impact on the economic development of the north-west,” said Dr Liam Maguire, a lecturer at the new school.
“The merger is the first of its kind at the University of Ulster and will lead to the centralization of resources and facilities for students studying at the campus.”
The School will offer a range of undergraduate degree programmes from BSc (Hons) in Computing, BEng (Hons) Electronics and Computing, BSc (Hons) E-Business and Connectivity, BSc (Hons) Interactive Multimedia Design and a DipHE in Electronics and Software Systems.
A range of postgraduate courses, most notably a MSc in Computing and Information Systems, will also be on offer.
