UU stages UK premier of sizzling new comedy
27th August 2001
The University of Ulster is set to host the UK premier of What's Cooking?, the eagerly awaited new film from director Gurinder Chadha.
What’s Cooking?, a comedy that celebrates America's ethnic diversity, is being launched by Cineversity, the University’s of Ulster's film programme in partnership with Queen's Film Theatre.
Four families, one Vietnamese, one Hispanic, one African American and one Jewish, all prepare for Thanksgiving. A multitude of problems however ensure that the festivities turn out to be anything but traditional.
Following the success of Bhaji on the Beach Chadha was keen to screen her latest film to Belfast audiences and together with co-writer Paul Mayeda Berges, will be introducing the premier.
They will also be participating in a question and answer session with the audience after the screening.
“We are thrilled to have this exciting premier happening as part of the Cineversity programme,” said Paul Hainsworth, Chair of the Cineversity Committee.
“The director, Gurinder Chadha visited Belfast a few years ago for the screening of Bhaji on the Beach and was very keen to have her new film screened at the earliest opportunity for Belfast audiences”.
What’s Cooking? runs from August 31st until September 13th at Queen's Film Theatre.
