UU hosts RCN conference
5th September 2001
Over 250 delegates from across the globe will be attending the RCN Orthopaedic Nursing Conference at the University of Ulster this week.
The conference will celebrate 50 years of orthopaedic training for nurses in Northern Ireland and is the second time the annual conference has been held in the province.
Significant developments regarding the formation of a major international orthopaedic nursing alliance will be revealed at the conference.
The programme also includes lectures on topics ranging from the cost of punishment assaults to society to the elderly and the health service.
Julie Stone, chair of the RCN Society of Orthopaedic Nursing, will be guest speaker at the event. She will be joined by the permanent secretary for the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Clive Gowdy.
“The aim of this conference is to enable orthopaedic nurses to meet, network and hear the different experiences of those who have crossed the boundaries and broken down barriers across the whole field of practice,” said event organizer, Jane Edey.
“It will allow nurses involved in the field of orthopaedic nursing the opportunity to share ideas, develop policies and improve practice for the benefit of patients and their families”.
The RCN Society of Orthopaedic Nursing International Conference runs from September 6th-9th at the University of Ulster, Jordanstown.
