UU Welcomes Northbrook Expansion

The University of Ulster welcomes the announcement by Northbrook Technologies Limited of the expansion of their activities in Northern Ireland with the opening of their offices in Londonderry. The University is especially pleased that Northbrook Technologies chose to locate on the University of Ulster Science Research Park, Magee located on the University campus.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ulster, Professor Gerry McKenna, said “Northbrook Technology already has a strong interaction with the University of Ulster, and their decision to locate on our Science Research Park at the Magee campus is a further endorsement of the University's international reputation for providing cutting edge research in ICT and the provision of graduates equipped with the necessary skills to support these knowledge-based
businesses. We are committed to fully participating in the development of the City as a magnet for high growth, high technology businesses, which will drive the development of the knowledge-based economy in Northern Ireland.”

The company has already secured a lease for the International Business Centre, one of the buildings on the Science Research Park. Speaking at the launch, Professor John Hughes said: “The Science Research Park, Magee was launched in July 2001 and we are delighted that Northbrook Technologies have decided to locate to the park as one of our first tenants. It is the mission of the University Research Parks to help attract these prestigious, high growth companies to Northern Ireland by providing the necessary infrastructure and access to the research personnel, resources and graduates of the University to facilitate their continued growth and expansion.”

The next phase of expansion of the Science Research Park, Magee is already being planned by the University with the development of further buildings at the Magee campus.

Speaking about the developments Professor Jim Allen, Provost of Magee campus said: “The University is undertaking a significant expansion programme for the Magee campus. With new degree programmes and consolidation of our informatics research strengths through the establishment of an international centre of excellence for ICT we are committed to playing a central role in achieving the City's future economic, social and cultural prosperity'.
