Magee Strengthens US Relations

Plans for future collaboration between the University of Ulster at Magee and The Stevens Institute of Technology, New Jersey, were revealed today as UU chiefs met with US delegates and local politicians.
The President of the Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ, Dr Hal Raveche, was met by UU officials and MEP John Hume as he visited the Magee Campus for crunch talks on developing links between the two institutions.
The visit followed an historic signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at Stormont yesterday, by Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister, Michael McGimpsey, the Govenor of New Jersey, James E. McGreevy, Dr Hal Raveche, President of the Stevens Institute,Dr Hilary Robinson, from the University of Ulster and a representative from Queens University."
The focus of the Magee visit was to discuss collaboration between Arts and Computing, with a particular emphasis on Intelligent MultiMedia, Computer Arts, Music, Performance and Computational storytelling.
The possibilities for research, technology transfer, educational programmes and joint visits were also explored.
Professor Paul McKevitt, from the Faculty of Informatics and Dr Anthony Hutton, from the Faculty of Arts, led the discussions.
Dr Raveche along with John Kirkwood and Barbara Benner of HRS Group Inc, who accompanied him on the visit, were given a tour of the Magee Campus, including The Magee Technology and Software Innovation Centre, the Academy of Irish and Cultural Heritages, Computing and arts laboratories and the Foyle Arts Centre.
