Medal Joy for Lisa
31st July 2002
A dream came true last night for judo player Lisa Bradley, of the University's School of Business Retail and Financial Services when she won a silver medal in the 'Under 52kg' judo category at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester.
Derry-born Lisa, 26, starts her academic career as a lecturer with the University in September.
Before leaving for Manchester, Lisa had told reporters: "I'm certainly going to do my best to get on the rostrum."
She’d already beaten all the Scottish, Welsh, Australian and Canadian competitors, and reckoned that experience gave her a good chance.
And she was proved right last night as she stepped up to the podium to collect her silver medal in the 'Under 52kg' judo category , which will join the two bronzes she already holds from the previous commonwealth games.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerry McKenna, extended his warm congratulations to Lisa on her achievement.
