Student Advice Day in South Belfast
15th October 2002
Students facing problems from accommodation worries to financial strain can come and seek professional advice tomorrow at an event organised by the University of Ulster.
The student advice day, to be held on October 16th, at City Church from 2pm to 5pm, will offer free and confidential guidance on a whole range of issues including personal safety, housing rights, funding and finance, as well as addressing educational and welfare concerns.
Attending the event will be the Citizens Advice Bureau, the Housing Rights Service, NU-USI and UU financial advisers, the UUSU Education and Welfare Officer, the PSNI and NIE.
UU Community Liaison Officer Anne Monaghan said: “We ran a similar event in conjunction with the UU Students’ Union in April which proved to be a great success. At this time of year many young people are just settling back into student life after being away for the summer and first year students are just finding their feet. Many of them will have concerns about their accommodation or finances, for example, and this advice day gives them easy access to a whole range of professionals who can help.
“Advice is free and confidential. Students can come as individuals or groups and take advantage of the convenient setting and relaxed atmosphere.”
Supporting the event UU Students’ Union President, Jason McGowan said: “We would encourage students to come to this event which is specifically aimed at making their time at university as enjoyable as possible.
“The Students’ Union Officers from UUJ and UUB will be available to offer friendly and confidential advice on any problems students might have.”
The Student Advice Day will be held at City Church, University Avenue, South Belfast, from 2-5pm. Refreshments will be provided and entry is free.
