A distinguished UU delegation led by Vice Chancellor Gerry McKenna, conferred degrees on over one hundred students in Shenyang, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka at graduation ceremonies this week.
In Shenyang 40 students graduated with MA’s in Business Administration while in Hong Kong, 27 students graduated in Computing Science, 32 in Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology and Food Technology Management and two students received MSc’s in Human Nutrition and Dietetics.
The results of a recent collaboration between the University of Ulster and Sri Lankan educational institutions were applauded at a ceremony in Sri Lanka. A group of teachers from the Sri Lankan National College of Education graduated in the MA TESOL course. Another group from the Sri Lankan National Institute of Education successfully completed UU Professional Development programmes.
Vice Chancellor Gerry McKenna said: “These graduates will now join the 100,000 alumni hailing from 45 countries worldwide that have graduated from the University of Ulster. In China alone we already have over 1,000 alumni.
“I am pleased to say that enrolment figures from China for this year are already on the increase. We now have a total of 240 Chinese students studying at the University of Ulster, both through conventional methods and via e learning.
“Our economies, whether they be in the United Kingdom or China, will have to be strong and vibrant to fund the massive increase in demand for services. Highly qualified students will be an important contribution to the knowledge and skills base that must be the foundation of China’s social and economic progress.”
