Management Institute Wins Training Award

6th November 2002

The University of Ulster’s Management Institute has won a Regional Training Award for its £2m project to help guide managers of the Child Support Agency through the intricacies of Government welfare reforms.

The Management Institute picked up the award at a gala awards ceremony in Belfast’s City Hall.

The National Training Awards are held annually to recognise best practice in training and development.

The Management Institute designed, developed and runs a programme – now in its third year – for around 500 middle management staff to help them come to terms with welfare reforms.

Such has been the success of that programme that the Institute has also won a contract to deliver similar training to around 3,000 managers of the CSA nationally. That programme will run over the next two and a half years.

Alan Christie, course director of the programme, said: "The award of the national contract was a huge endorsement of our training programme in Northern Ireland and shows that the Management Institute can deliver training and development courses of the highest calibre. In essence we are equipping CSA staff with management skills for the 21st century.

"We are delighted that our efforts have also been recognised by the National Training Awards and this is powerful motivation for our staff to continue to develop their expertise and to share it with others".
