UU Hosts Focus On The Future Conference
22nd November 2002

Sixth formers from across Northern Ireland will catch a glimpse of the future today at a conference aimed to encourage young people into science and engineering.
Focus on the Future will give 350 students the opportunity to meet experts from the UU who are at the cutting edge of Biomedics. Dr Eric McAdams will reveal how the fantasy of the bionic human is closer to reality than we think and Dr Brian Meenan will deliver a lecture entitled ‘Shocking Medicine’.
The young people will also have a chance to discuss their views on Biomedics with a panel from education and industry and visit various information stands that can answer any questions they have.
Professor Brian Norton, Dean of Engineering and the Built Environment said: “This is an excellent opportunity for young people to focus on the area of science and engineering. It will give them the chance to see what is really involved in a career in this field and hopefully help them to realise the vast possibilities open to them.
“There are so many exciting developments unfolding in the area of Biomedics and this event highlights just a few of them. The students will see how the work of scientists and engineers at the University of Ulster can have a positive impact in the wider world and an affect on our daily lives.”
The Focus on the Future conference was organised by the University of Ulster, Sentinus and the Northern Ireland Business Partnership.
