UU Promotes Closer Links With Business Community
13th December 2002
Could your business benefit from the skills and expertise of university academics at the top of their field?
The University of Ulster Knowledge Club has been set up to encourage interaction and strengthen links between the University of Ulster and the business community.
Its development is based on the assumption that, by creating a forum of common interest where ideas can be shared, we can improve opportunities for sustainable wealth creation in the region.
Knowledge Club Co-ordinator Edward Friel said: “This facility is one of the first initiatives developed under the new Office of Innovation and Enterprise at UU headed by Professor Chris Barnett, which helps streamline the process of turning research into commercial products.
“The Knowledge Club provides a forum for University staff to interact with businesses in Northern Ireland within specific technology areas. We have already held successful events across all the University campuses in the areas of ICT, Biotechnology and Finance.”
Recent events have included a series of workshops delivered by Deloitte and Touche for client companies and business start-ups as well as a Software Surgery for local businesses working in the ICT sector.
Guest lectures have included Fred Hoar, PR guru, Dan Maher, Director of ACT Venture Capital, Stuart Henderson, Chief Architect Cambridge Bioscience and Peter Taylor, CEO Mondo Medical.
