Transport - The Road To Success

13th December 2002

Young people from across Northern Ireland will be given an insight into the world of transport today at a University of Ulster workshop entitled Transport-the Road to Success.

Selected pupils who are interested in pursuing a career in transport and supply chain management will meet leading figures in the field and have the opportunity to get involved in workshops, debates and question and answer sessions.

A prize of £150 will be awarded to the school with the best overall participation, debating skills and poster presentation.

Professor Brian Norton, Dean of Engineering and the Built Environment said: “The importance of transport and supply chain management to our lives frequently goes unnoticed. Today the profession is at the leading edge of efficiency and business innovation, with an expanding workforce it is understandable that there is a shortage of candidates to fill the emerging job opportunities.

“These workshops will give young people an opportunity to see at first hand what a career in transport could offer them. We hope it will really get them thinking about the crucial issues surrounding the whole area of transport.”

Topics covered during the day will include: paying for road use, catching the bus, relying on new technology and when the oil runs out.
