UU Jordanstown’s Spar Express convenience store celebrated its first birthday this week, and staff were marking the occasion in style.

Customers had the chance to win a DVD player if they could guess the number of punters that shopped in Spar throughout the year. Agnes McCormack, from Carrickfergus - a cleaner at UUJ - correctly guessed 339,346.

"I was delighted to win the DVD. It was so unexpected. Staff in Spar are always pleasant and helpful, and the shop has fantastic special offers", she said.

Kate Williamson, Acting Manager said: "It has been a very successful year for the Catering Department franchise. Spar's commitment to quality service has been highly rated by both students and staff. We will continue to build on current success by acting on customer requests and by expanding the range of products and services available in Spar Express."

In October 2002 UUJ Spar Express was nominated as "Best New Neighborhood Retailer" by the Neighbourhood Retailer Awards.
