UU Launches Unique Online MA In Irish Cultural Heritages

29th October 2003

The University of Ulster has launched the only online MA in Irish Cultural Heritages in the world.

The unique programme, offered through the Academy for Irish Cultural Heritages, is aimed at graduates who want to pursue their interests in Irish history, literature and culture from home.

Already the course has attracted interest from students across the globe with its high quality teaching and state-of-the-art computer technology.

Students can choose from a wide range of modules covering topics such as history, identity and difference in Northern Ireland, 20th Century Irish literature, migration and the Irish Diaspora or commemorating the Troubles.

Course Director Dr Liam Harte said: “This online degree represents a genuinely ground-breaking educational development in the field of Irish Studies. For the first time, people interested in studying Ireland’s diverse cultural heritages can do so from any part of the world, without having to travel or relocate. This unique course effectively means that students have a university at their fingertips, with instant access to a team of expert teachers and researchers. It’s a tremendously exciting development for the Academy, which is now reaching a worldwide audience”.

Courses can be taken as part of a Masters, Diploma or Certificate programme, or individually, on a one-off basis. Enrolment takes place twice a year, in October and January. The next intake of students will be in January 2004, and registration can be completed entirely online.
