Riverside Director Plays Key Role In New Theatre Association

4th November 2003

The Association of Regional Theatres (ART), the first grouping of its kind in Ireland, launched its programme this week at the Millennium Forum, in Derry.

ART brings together the five regional theatres in Northern Ireland, including the University’s Riverside, headed up by Artistic Director, Andrea Montgomery.

It aims to ‘create high quality work, tailored to the regional audience, whilst creating a tool with which to make our artistic voice heard further afield’.

Brian Friel and Adrian Dunbar launched the new programme, which kicks off with a tour of Irish classic, Philadelphia, Here I Come!

ART Producer, Andrea Montgomery, said: “The tour will begin in Northern Ireland in January and progress to Republic of Ireland and the UK, making this one of the largest projects of its kind to originate in Northern Ireland.

“We are delighted to have both Adrian and Brian on board for our first project. The future success of ART is dependant on a positive response to this initial production, and I am confident that local audiences will be excited with the high calibre of work that will be produced”.
