Documentary Highlights Barbaric Practice Of Female Circumcision
19th November 2003
Cineversity, the University of Ulster’s Film Programme, will present the award-winning documentary ‘The Day I will Never Forget’ as part of the Seagate Foyle Film Festival.
The moving tale explores the practice of female circumcision in North Africa and the Middle East through the personal stories of Kenyan women.
Director Kim Longinotto interviews just some of the 6,000 young women affected each day by the traditional practice of female circumcision.
The pain and horror of the ordeal so traumatised one little girl, eight year old Fouzia Hassan, that it prompted her to write a poem called The Day I will Never Forget, which gave the documentary its title.
Kim will introduce the film and will also conduct a Question and Answer session afterwards.
The screening, subtitled A film about culture, tradition and rebellion, will take place on Wednesday 26th November at 1.30pm in the Nerve Centre, Magazine Street, Derry. Admission to this event is £1.
