Cineversity Presents A Look At The Troubles
19th November 2003
Cineversity, the University of Ulster’s Film Programme, will be presenting an examination of “Troubles” films as part of the Seagate Foyle Film Festival.
Gordon Gillespie, from the University of Ulster, will present an illustrated lecture on the “Troubles” films from the 1970s to the 1990s.
Co-author of: Northern Ireland 1968 - 1999: A Chronology of the Troubles, Mr Gillespie will examine the films from the point of view of a historian.
In his illustrated lecture, he will examine the stereotypes found in Northern Ireland related films from the 1970s through to the mid 1990s. He will also discuss how films changed from "Troubles" films to movies influenced by the peace process and more recent attempts at Northern Ireland based romantic comedies.
The films to be discussed include Angel, Some Mother’s Son and the Devil’s Own.
The event will take place on Thursday 27th November in the Nerve Centre, Magazine Street, Derry. Admission is free.
