Acclaimed Pianist Takes the Stage at UU
25th November 2003
As part of his Irish début tour, the acclaimed solo pianist Paul Lewis will perform at the University of Ulster, Coleraine, next week.
This is one of just five concerts in Northern Ireland, which have been organised by the Arts Council-funded organisation Moving On Music.
Paul Lewis is one of the most sought after artists of his generation, appearing regularly in recital and as a concert soloist at prestigious venues around the world, such as Carnegie Hall, New York and the Wigmore Hall, London. He is equally in demand as a chamber musician.
Since he won second prize in the 1994 World Piano Competition the press has hailed Paul Lewis as a name to watch.
In January Lewis won the 2003 South Bank Show Classical Music Award for his Schubert Sonata Series and in June he went on to win one of classical music’s most prestigious prizes, the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Instrumentalist of the Year.
His University of Ulster performance will include Schubert’s 6 German Dances, D820, Schoenberg’s Six Little Piano Pieces, Op 19 and Liszt’s Sonata in B Minor, Mozart’s Adagio in B Minor K540, Schumann’s Scenes from Childhood, Op 15 and Schubert’s Three Piano Pieces, D946.
This event takes place on Thursday 4th December at 8.00pm. Admission is £7.00, concession £5.00, students £3.00. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased in advance in the Cashier’s Office, Coleraine campus or at the door on the evening.
