Fire safety Lecture at UU

1st December 2003

The widespread use of fire risk analysis by fire professionals will lead to safer, better and more cost-effective buildings in the future- this was the prediction of leading fire safety expert, Professor David Charters speaking at a guest lecture organised by FireSERT this week.

Professor Charters is a senior fire engineer with ARUP and is a visiting lecturer at the University of Leeds.

He has been heavily involved in rail industry fire safety after the Kings Cross disaster in 1987 when 31 people died as a result of an underground fire.

Event organiser, Professor Jim Shields from FireSERT said: “Quantatative risk analysis is one of the tools that we can use to ensure that the fire safety requirements of the functional fire regulations are satisfied.

“FireSERT is the leading UK university based organisation in the field of fire safety research and education and will host the 3rd International Symposium on Human Behaviour in Fire In Belfast in 2004"
