University of Ulster Jordanstown GFC launches Ulster Bank Sponsorship

23rd November 2004

The University of Ulster Jordanstown Gaelic Football Club today launched a new three year sponsorship agreement with the Ulster Bank.

Guest of honour was Cork All-Ireland winning hurler and International Rules star Sean Og O'hAilpin.

At the launch the Club unveiled its new jersey and a range of leisure gear and honoured current and former players on the Ireland international Rules squad, and members of the All Ireland winning Armagh U-21 and Tyrone Minor teams.

Jordanstown Club Chairman Brendan Strain said: "We are delighted to have Ulster Bank as our sponsorship partners for the next three years. We are looking forward to further success in the club to build on our proud tradition of achievement. This sponsorship is in line with the GAA's thinking to move away from alcohol related agreements. We are keen to give young people a positive image about managing their lifestyle and adopting a healthy living. Our current and former players are excellent role models for many young people playing sport and thinking about going to university."

Aidan Durkin, Area Manager for Retail Banking said: "Ulster Bank is delighted to be teaming up, for the first time, with the University of Ulster Jordanstown Gaelic Football Club - the largest and most successful sporting club in the 3rd level sector and one of the biggest sporting units in Ireland.  This relationship underlines our commitment to the community and our ongoing support of the sporting world. We wish both the players and the teams every success in the various competitions over the coming year."

University of Ulster Head of Marketing and Promotion Joe Passmore said: "The Jordanstown Gaelic Football Club has achieved success at every level. This is due to the hard work and dedication of players, coaches and officials. The players honoured today have brought tremendous honour to the University and we are very proud of them. We are delighted to welcome dual star Sean Og O'hAilpin to this launch."

At the launch the Club honoured current and former players on Ireland's successful 2004 International Rules Team, and current students on the 2004 All-Ireland winning Armagh U-21 and Tyrone Minor teams.
