Sociable Students
Social work students at the Magee campus are having a ball. And they want everyone to join in the fun.
To celebrate a 30-year span of social work studies at Magee, which this year saw the launch of a new BSc Hons Social Work, they have decided it is time to socialise.
They are holding a Gala Social Work Ball on Tuesday 14 December at the City Hotel, Derry and want the social work fraternity in the university and further afield - such as personnel in community and official agencies - to come along and make it a special night.
Maureen Woods currently an MSc student in social work and chair of the Social Work Committee said: “We are a new society. We are delighted to be able to extend an invitation to all students at Magee to come along to the Ball. On the night we hope to fundraise for Foyle Hospice, so we hope that you will support us.”
“Magee has had long association with social work study, from the early days of certificate and diploma level to the present honours degree. From next year all of the university’s basic qualifying and training in social work will be centralised here.
“We want to make people aware of the Society and to make it a forum where students, practitioners and anyone interested in the field can discuss current practice and developments in it.”
Tickets for the formal dinner dance, with music by the Merchants of Menace, are £25 each.
They go on sale at the Students’ Union 12.00 - 3.00pm each Tuesday and Wednesday. Further information can be obtained through the Social Work Faculty Office at Magee on the ground floor of the MF building.
