News Release

UU Soccer Stars’ Night of Celebration

7th December 2004

A line-up of Irish League stars will be among the capacity crowd attending a fundraising/reunion gala run by the University of Ulster’s Jordanstown soccer club on Wednesday night.

Former UUJ players Chris Morgan (Glentoran) and Liam Fleming (Cliftonville) will be joined by current students, Ruairi McClean (Ballymena Utd), Neil Alderdice, Philip Craig and Chris Lindsay (Portadown), Richard Clarke (Omagh Town), Nathan McConnell (Cliftonville) Conor Lynch (Limavady Utd) and John Guy (Loughgall). Kevin Johnston, brother of English Premiership and Northern Ireland star Damien Johnston, completes the talented line-up.

Up to 300 people are expected to attend the dinner and dance at Madison’s Hotel in Belfast including members of the University’s sport centre and Students Union.

The event is being organised, in part, to raise funds for the club’s Collingwood Cup, Harding Memorial Cup and Crowley Cup challenges and club captain Gerald Boyle will be presented with a new strip by John Anderson of ERREA Sports Equipment.

The club’s Freshers Championship winning squad of 2003/04 will also be presented with their medals at the event. The team scooped the title by defeating sides from other higher and further education institutions in Northern Ireland.

And the club is hoping for more silverware this week with this year’s Freshers’ squad and the UUJ Seconds side both vying for league honours in their respective groups.
