Artist Receives Teaching Award

14th December 2004

Mrs Deborah Fraser of the School of Art and Design has been awarded a Distinguished Teaching Fellowship by the University of Ulster.

The award recognises Mrs Fraser - a noted jewellery designer - as having made an outstanding contribution to the development of course provision and the links with academic enterprise.

A native of south Belfast and graduate of the University of Ulster, Mrs Fraser joined the University staff in 1992 as an associate lecturer in Silversmithing and Jewellery, becoming course director for the BA Fine and Applied Arts in 1997.

She retains a private practice in jewellery design, and was recently artist in residence at the Ulster Museum. Her work has been exhibited in New York, Japan and across Europe.

Mrs Fraser works closely with organisations such as Arts and Business and encourages students to bridge the gap from education to establishing their own practice in a competitive world.

She currently lives in south Belfast with her husband and son.
