Senior Distinguished Research Fellowship Award
Professor David Sturdy, 64, of the University’s School of History and International Affairs, has been awarded a Senior Distinguished Research Fellowship by the University of Ulster.
A native of Middlesbrough, Professor Sturdy has built a distinguished career as a historian, becoming a respected researcher and author.
The Senior Distinguished Research Fellowship award recognises his outstanding contribution to Early Modern French and European history.
Educated at Sir William Turner’s School, Redcar, and the universities of Hull and King’s College, London, Professor Sturdy received his doctorate from Trinity College, Dublin where he lectured from 1965-70. He joined the New University of Ulster in 1970 as a lecturer in history, becoming Professor of Early Modern History in 1999
A fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a contributor to numerous publications in the field, his most recent publication is Richelieu and Mazarin: A Study in Statemanship (2003).
Professor Sturdy is married with two daughters and lives in Coleraine
