Senior Distinguished Research Fellowship Award
Professor Martin McGinnity, 52, Head of the School of Computing and Intelligent Systems, has been awarded a Senior Distinguished Research Fellowship by the University of Ulster.
A native of Belfast, Professor McGinnity has built a distinguished career in intelligent systems, becoming a respected researcher and author. The Senior Distinguished Research Fellowship award recognises Professor McGinnity's outstanding contribution to his field.
Educated at St. Mary's CBS in Belfast and the New University of Ulster, Professor McGinnity received his doctorate from the University of Durham. He joined the University of Ulster in 1992 as a senior lecturer in electronic engineering, becoming Professor of Intelligent System Engineering in 2000.
A Fellow of the IEE, Member of the IEEE and a Chartered Engineer, Professor McGinnity is a contributor to numerous learned scientific publications. He is currently working on a number of research projects, including the 'Sensemaker' project, a European Union Framework 5 research project which seeks to replicate in advanced computational systems aspects of biological sensory processing.
Professor McGinnity is married with four children and lives in Derry.
