The University of UIster golf team continued their fine run of form with a hard fought 3-2 victory over NUI Maynooth at Carton House Golf Club on Tuesday 14th December.

Following a surprise opening day defeat away to Athlone IT, Tuesday's victory along with the 4-1 win achieved against DCU in mid November leaves the University of Ulster side top of the table in Section A of the IGCA All Ireland League.

They have one match remaining in early February against UCC at Royal Portrush Golf Club, and with two teams to qualify from the section to the League Finals in early April, the boys

are well placed to regain the title which they won in 2002 at Royal Dublin Golf Club.

The match against NUI Maynooth was played in blustery conditions over the stunning Montgomerie Course at Carton House, the same course which will play host to the 2005 Irish Open.

UU started very positively with both captain Alex McCloy and Connor Doran scoring resounding victories over their less experienced opponents.

Unfortunately, NUI Maynooth pulled two games back withboth Michael Dickson and Graeme Dickson being defeated - despite playing some excellent golf.

It was left to UU's Jayson McIntyre to save the day and seal victory for the UU boys with a deserved 2&1 victory over his Dublin opponent.
