Lecturing Post for Lisa
For the first time, this year’s summer graduation ceremonies at Coleraine will include Travel and Tourism graduates from the university’s Portrush site.
The former Northern Ireland Hotel and Catering College at Portrush was integrated into the University of Ulster in autumn 2002 and this year’s graduates will be the first Travel and Tourism students to complete their studies under the auspices of UU.
And before the ink had dried on her parchment, one student – Lisa McGivern from Newtownards – had already landed herself a lecturing job at North Down and Ards College.
Lisa, who takes up her lecturing post on September 1, says she is really looking forward to the new challenges that lie ahead.
“I will be involved with a number of different programmes teaching Business-Related Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism.”
In the third year of their degree programme, International Travel and Tourism students have an opportunity to do an industrial placement at home or abroad.
For her placement, Lisa took advantage of the Business Education Initiative (BEI), which is a Management Development Programme for undergraduate students offered by the Department for Employment and Learning in Northern Ireland.
She spent an academic year in Seton University in Pittsburgh, attending lectures and helping with the organisation of a variety of events both on and off campus. She was awarded a Diploma in Area Studies with Commendation on completion of her placement.
