UU Professors Appointed to MRC College of Experts

Three UU academics have been appointed to the prestigious College of Experts of the Medical Research Council.
They are Ciaran O'Neill, Professor of Health Economics and Policy at the School of Economics and Politics; Roger Anderson, Professor of Vision Science at the School of Biomedical Sciences and Sean Strain, Professor of Human Nutrition and Co-Director of the Centre for Molecular Biosciences.
Members of the College provide the MRC with expert opinions on grant applications to the MRC; provide advice to the MRC on high profile issues, and participate in special review panels.
Commenting on their appointment Professor Colin Blakemore, FRS, Chief Executive of the MRC said: “Appointment to the College is an indication of considerable academic distinction, which we hope will be recognised as such in the RAE”.
Professor O'Neill also recently held a prestigious Harkness Fellowship. The Commonwealth Fund's Harkness Fellowships in Health Care Policy provide an opportunity for health services researchers and practitioners from Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Germany to spend up to 12 months in the United States, conducting original research and working with leading health policy experts.
