Lecturers from the University of Ulster have teamed up with a top digital designer/ photographer to offer A-level students the chance to study the exciting new area of creative digital photography.

Dr Sarah Edge, from the Centre for Media Research and photographer Justine Scoltock, from the Nerve Centre in Derry, have organised a series of workshops for students in the Coleraine area.

“Creative digital photography design is an emerging area in the creative industries. Already, students from Dominican College, North Coast Integrated College and some local photography enthusiasts have had the opportunity to access skills training in this new art form,” explains Dr Edge.

“The workshops have been designed to stimulate creative thinking in relation to digital photography as well as support skills development.”

Digital designer and photographer Justine Scoltock, is collaborating with Dr Edge on her research on early Irish photography to produce an online photographic project exploring the history and discourses of photography.

She is also working with students on the Media Arts programme to produce online photographic projects.

The Centre for Media Research, Media Studies and Cultural Development have joined forces to offer Justine’s skills and expertise to the local community in the Coleraine area through the series of Creative Digital Photography Workshops.

The community workshops are taking place in the Flowerfield Arts Centre, Portstewart.

The participants’ final work will be exhibited in Centre’s Upper Gallery, opening on Tuesday 13 December at 7.30pm and remaining in the Gallery until the end of December.
