Today is World Aids Day and students from the University of Ulster have organised a series of events to mark the event, including forming a giant human red ribbon outside the Belfast campus.

Supported by the University’s Community Relations team and the Students’ Union, students will be manning stands across the four campuses to raise awareness of the issues surrounding HIV/Aids.

Anne Monaghan, Community Relations Manager at UU said: “The University is committed to helping educate people and develop awareness about HIV and AIDS. As part of this drive, we will be hosting an acclaimed photographic exhibition, in collaboration with Concern Worldwide, called Positive Lives, early next year. It will be the first time that the Positive Lives exhibition has been shown in Northern Ireland and will focus on the personal stories those affected by HIV/Aids. The exhibition will be open to the public at the University of Ulster Jordanstown Campus from 25 January – 8 February 2006.”

Colleen Dowdall, Overall President of the Students’ Union added: “UU Students’ Union is committed to educating students about the worldwide impact of HIV and AIDS. We have a responsibility to inform students and to look at ways in which we can make a difference”.
