UU Students’ Union Launches Diversity Campaign

The University of Ulster’s Students’ Union has become one of the first on the island of Ireland to launch a ‘Diversity Programme’.
The initiative aims to create an equal environment for all students at UU and to ensure that preference is not given to anyone on the grounds of religious or political belief, race, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability.
Colleen Dowdall, UUSU Overall President said: “It is essential that we support diversity on campus and encourage students to appreciate diversity among their fellow students. We have created awareness of our diversity policy by mounting plaques in all our Unions and by advertising in student publications.
“During Diversity Week in February we will draw attention to the issues of sectarianism, racism, homophobia and disability discrimination. Some of the events we have organised include diversity training for all students (facilitated by NUS-USI), an international food fair and the screening of films from around the world on campus. The Students’ Union has also created a ‘Good Relations on Campus’ document, which is available to all students and will serve to guide our work. ”
