UU Students and Local Residents Host Carol Service

Students from the University’s Magee campus have teamed up with Aberfoyle and Duncreggan Residents’ Association to host a Christmas carol service in the city’s Christ Church.

The Christmas celebration is just one of many initiatives organised in recent months to help promote positive interaction between the students and residents living in the University area.

Over 80 people, made up of students, University staff and local residents took part in the service, which was led by UU Choir Director Dr Shaun Ryan.

Professor Tom Fraser, Provost of the University’s Magee campus said: “I am immensely grateful to those who came forward with this initiative, which has brought together the local community association, the Students’ Union, our Chaplains, the University Choir and Christ Church.  The occasion was truly memorable, and I certainly hope it can be repeated in the years to come at a variety of venues in the city”.

Jim Kelley, from the Aberfoyle and Duncreggan Residents’ Association said: “This is a wonderful example of how people can work together to help create a sense of community spirit and improve the area that we live in.”

Coleen Dowdall, Overall President of the Students’ Union added: “I would especially like to thanks all the students who have become involved with this project. Their hard work and enthusiasm has really paid off and I hope they will continue to participate in community events in the area.”
