On receiving his award, Dr Gault said: “I am delighted to have been selected to receive the University of Ulster Distinguished Research Fellowship Award. My receipt of this prestigious award is obviously a great personal honour, but also recognises the quality of research in diabetes conducted at this University. Diabetes has been coined the epidemic of the 21st Century and my ongoing research aims to unravel the underlying mechanisms and establish possible new treatment strategies for this major health disorder.”
