Distinguished Business Fellowship for Dr Pauric McGowan
Dr Pauric McGowan, Director of the Northern Ireland Centre for Entrepreneurship (NICENT), which is based at the Jordanstown campus, today receives a Distinguished Business Fellowship from the university.
Dr McGowan has played a leading role in the promotion of entrepreneurship across the higher education sector and particularly within the faculties of Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) at the University of Ulster.
Under his direction the Centre has sought, through its curriculum development activity, to build the level of awareness of entrepreneurship amongst students and staff within the faculties. Building partnership links between industry and the University has been crucial to his success in this activity.
NICENT is one of a network of 13 such centres across the UK and is a partnership between the University of Ulster, Queen’s University, Belfast and Loughry Campus.
Before taking up his NICENT position, 2003, Dr McGowan was a senior lecturer at the University of Ulster, specialising in Strategic Marketing and Entrepreneurship. He has published widely on the subject internationally and presented papers at research conferences in Europe and America. He is a member of the editorial boards of four international journals which address issues of entrepreneurship and a co-author of an international textbook on Marketing and Entrepreneurship in small-to-medium sized enterprises.
Dr McGowan is a member of the Marketing Institute of Ireland and before joining the University of Ulster, worked in education management and small business development as a practitioner and as a business counsellor. He started his early professional career in sales.
