Pupils from schools across the North West will be levitating objects in mid-air, trying to fool a lie detector and dancing with robots today – all in aid of National Science Week.

The University of Ulster’s Magee campus is marking the first day of National Science Week – which runs from 10th to 19th March – with a morning of innovative and exciting experiments for local school children.

National Science Week takes place every March and provides an opportunity for people of all ages to take part in science, engineering and technology activities.

Maeve Paris, from the School of Computing and Intelligent Systems, said: “Today’s event aims to demonstrate that science doesn’t have to be boring or complicated. The range of experiments that the children can take part in are geared towards engaging their minds in a creative and constructive way. I think they will all enjoy interacting with our robots, building bridges out of cardboard, levitating objects and trying to fool the lie detector test. The morning is all about getting them to think about science in a different way”.

Events to mark National Science Week will also take place at the University’s Coleraine campus on Tuesday 14 March and at the Jordanstown campus on Thursday 16 March.
