Renowned Ceramics Artist Hosts UU Workshop
An internationally renowned ceramics artist is sharing the secrets of his success during a visit to the University’s Belfast campus this week.
Greg Daly, senior lecturer from the School of Art, Canberra University, Australia, is hosting a three-day glaze and lustre short course.A member of the International Academy of Ceramics and former President of the Australia Craft Council, Greg is highly respected for his innovation in glaze technology, creating rich ceramic surface inspired by the diversity of colour, light and texture.
He has had over 75 solo exhibitions throughout Australia since 1976. His work is represented in over 70 international museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, the Faenza Ceramic Museum, Italy, Ariana Museum, Switzerland, Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Canada, and the Saga Perfectual Museum, Japan.“I have a concern for the whole piece,” explains Greg. “Throwing, finishing, firing and decorating are all important to me in the creation of the work. Images, illusions of surface and the form they are placed upon, create individual works.
“The ceramics department at UU is spacious and well equipped, from a dedicated plaster room, glaze and testing laboratory and diversity of kilns. With lecturers like Michael Moore who take opportunities to bring in visiting artists this goes well for the future for what is being offered to students and the ceramic community.”
This event was sponsored by the Cultural Development, UU, The Arts Council NI, Craft NI and Scarva Pottery Supplies.
