Students from schools and colleges across Northern Ireland found out what the future of computing gaming holds in store at a recent lecture hosted at the Coleraine campus.
Organised by the Computing Games Society, the event featured Graham Dunnett from Electronic Arts, who revealed the future for next generation games consoles such as the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
Electronic Arts is one of the largest computer games companies globally with a market value of around $18 Billion and over 8000 employees.
Graham is currently the Director of Productization Services at Electronic Arts and runs three global teams: Documentation, Quality Assurance, and Configuration Management.
The students were also shown exclusive video footage of the hotly anticipated PS3 game Army of Two.
Dr Darryl Charles, lecturer in Computer Science, said: “We are delighted that Graham took time out of a very busy schedule visit the Coleraine campus. We are especially pleased that Electronic Arts’ recruitment policy justifies the approach that we have taken to the construction of our new games degree and that Graham was personally supportive of our development policy.”
The Computing Games Society events are designed to build awareness of pathways into study and employment within in the games industry and are open to school, college and university student over the age of 16.
The next event will take place in March 2007 to coincide with the PlayStation 3 launch in Europe when John Bustard, senior game designer at Sony, Cambridge, will speak on PlayStation 3 game design.
